The amount of light is very important when you are shooting moving subjects therefore use the flash whenever possible; turning the flash on sometimes results in the camera having to select a higher shutter speed which in turn freezes action much better. Take note, however, that the flash will only be effective at a range of eight feet. Shoot in as much daylight as possible since this will help you achieve better images.

If your camera doesn’t automatically select a higher setting for shutter speed, then you have to do this manually. Keep in mind that the essence of freezing motion is in the reduction of the amount of time that the shutter is open; hence, the faster the shutter speed, the better for your moving shots.

This is one of the most effective methods of taking shots when you have a subject in motion; however, it is also one which needs a lot of practice. Shutter lag is the time it takes for your camera to focus and calculate the exposure after squeezing the shutter button before capturing the shot. The trick then is to half press the shutter button, allowing the camera to pre-focus, pre-calculate, and lock in on your settings. Once the action begins, you can press the button all the way down.
